Regal Logistics will establish its new distribution center in Berkeley County
The multi-million dollar investment is expected to generate 30 new full-time jobs, and 50 to 100 seasonal jobs. Regal Logistics' new distribution center in Berkeley County at 1980 Technology Road in a 351,000-square-foot existing building is open for business and designed for high-volume, quick-turnaround, retail-compliant shipping. A modern tilt-up concrete panel facility, it's centrally located three miles from I-526, four miles from Port of Charleston's main Wando Welch Terminal, and offers foreign trade zone and drayage zone status for less expensive container transportation to ports. Regal provides distribution, pick & pack, export/import shipping, consolidation, cross docking, transloading, drop shipping, administrative support and value added services at its new facility, which is fully equipped with the latest information technologies including WMS, EDI, ASN, RFID and real time inventory and shipment dashboard. Moulton Logistics to Open Facility in Berkeley County
Los Angeles-based Moulton Logistics Management will locate its new distribution and logistics facility in Berkeley County, taking over the former Masisa building on Clements Ferry Road. This strategic location will allow Moulton Logistics to provide access to markets in Europe and across the Atlantic Ocean while reducing delivery costs and transit times to the company’s East Coast markets. Gildan Activewear Announces DC, Retail Operations in Berkeley
Gildan Activewear will locate its new retail distribution center facility in Berkeley County. Gildan’s investment is expected to generate approximately 250 new jobs this year. The company is the leading supplier of activewear for the screenprint market in the U.S. and Canada. Belk Bringing DC Cargo through Port of Charleston
Belk, Inc., which operates more than 300 department stores across the Southeast, has begun importing more than 1,000 containers annually through Charleston to stock the chain’s distribution centers in Blythewood, South Carolina and Jackson, Mississippi. Performance Team, a leading supply chain logistics and delivery company located in Goose Creek, is transloading import containers of apparel, accessories, housewares and footwear to support the DCs. Moving the freight through Charleston versus other ports offers a cost savings on transportation while reducing cycle time, according to Belk officials.

TBC Picks Port of Charleston Site for 1.1 Million sf DC
Tire marketing giant TBC Corporation has selected a site developed by Rockefeller Group Development and MeadWestvaco as the location of their new distribution center. Construction on the 1,100,000 square-foot facility will begin late in 2009 and be open for business in the 4th quarter of 2010. The site is on I-26 approximately 25 miles from the Port of Charleston. "We are excited about the opportunity to consolidate a portion of our distribution network to a new and larger facility in the Charleston area," said Erik R. Olsen, president and chief executive of TBC's wholesale business. "The infrastructure and location of the Port of Charleston complements our growth and will allow us to meet the growing demands of our customers."

Hillwood Starts Construction
Hillwood Investment Properties has begun construction on the extension of Business Park Road leading to the firm’s speculative industrial project off of I-26. The 1.5 mile roadway will lead to the “front door” of Hillwood’s site. It is expected to be complete in 90-120 days. After the roadway is complete construction will begin on the first phase of the firm’s 13-building, 9 million sf project. The first building, a 513,000 sf Class A industrial facility expandable to more than 1,000,000 sf, is due late in 2009.

Trammell Crow Closes on Omni Industrial Site
Trammell Crow Company has recently closed on a development site 25 miles from the Port of Charleston on I-26. The company plans to develop a 500,000sf cross-dock facility, expandable up to 700,000sf, that will be available in 2009. The site could potentially encompass up to seven buildings totaling 3,200,000sf. Trammell Crow also announced that CB Richard Ellis’ Charleston office has been selected as the broker for the project. New Childress Klein Building Under Construction
Childress Klein Properties is adding to its portfolio of spec buildings in the Port of Charleston marketplace with the construction of Building 4 in the Charleston Regional Business Center project. Hillwood to Develop 750-Acre Charleston Trade Center
In large part due to the importance of global trade through the Port of Charleston, Hillwood is developing Charleston Trade Center, a 750-acre industrial project that includes up to 9,000,000sf of primarily logistics and light manufacturing space in Berkeley County, South Carolina. Charleston Trade Center is strategically located between the Port of Charleston and Interstate 95, along the south side of Interstate 26 just east of exit 194.
